Do you need to be able to swim for river rafting?
Which tour is suitable for non-swimmers?
On calmer water tours (e.g., whitewater I–II), non-swimmers are welcome if they inform the guide beforehand. A good example is the Simme in the Simmental, it is a calm river, with a clear route, ideal for beginners. Groups with mixed swimming abilities. The life jacket keeps you afloat. Terrain is managed to avoid needing swimming skills.
Whitewater: swimming required
On challenging tours with stronger currents (grade III–IV), a life jacket is not enough. You must swim confidently, even with shoes, clothing, and a current. Non-swimmers cannot join these tours for safety reasons.
How to find the right tour?
Simple. Ask before booking. Every tour has a clear assessment of whether swimming is required. If unsure, choose a calmer route. Plenty of action there to get started.
