Does canyoning take place in all weather?

Quick answer

Canyoning in Switzerland is only possible from May to October. If it is too cold or snow is present, canyons are unusable. They become too dangerous, have too much water, or everything frozen. Tours focus on summer months.

What works, what does not?

  • Light rain or clouds: No problem. You get wet anyway, wetsuit keeps warm.
  • Heavy rain or thunderstorms: Risk of flash floods or lightning. Tour is cancelled.
  • High water level: Water level is decisive. If it rises too much from prolonged rain or snowmelt, tour does not start.
  • Foehn, storm, extreme weather: If safety is at risk, nothing happens.

What happens if cancelled?
If a tour cannot take place, first checked:

  • Is there another safe gorge?
  • Is a replacement date possible?
  • If both fail, money is refunded.

Weather is not the enemy. It sets the rules; and the rules are: safety first.
