How does a straight jump work on a snowboard?

The straight jump is the first jump you learn in the park. You jump straight over a small kicker without rotation or grab. The goal is a stable flight and controlled landing.
You start with speed control as you ride past the kicker several times to get a feel for approach and timing. Then focus on body tension. Stay centered over the board, slightly bent, arms relaxed.
On takeoff, use an ollie from the back leg or simply ride calmly over the lip. Stay compact in the air with your knees tucked and eyes on the landing. On landing, bend your knees and absorb the impact through your legs and ankles.
A clean straight jump is the foundation for everything else: 180°, grabs, or style variations. Feeling confident here opens many new possibilities.
