Which shoes do I need for the Aletsch Glacier hike?

For a glacier hike, solid hiking or mountaineering boots are essential.

Your footwear needs to provide reliable grip, support the ankle, and perform safely on snow, ice, and uneven terrain.

Make sure you have worn your boots on previous hikes or mountain tours before the glacier hike. Well broken in boots adapt better to your feet and significantly reduce the risk of pressure points or blisters.

Running shoes and lightweight trekking shoes are not allowed, as they do not offer sufficient stability or protection on a glacier.

Crampon compatible boots are an advantage, especially in more demanding conditions, but they are not mandatory. What matters most is a stiff, grippy sole and a secure fit around the foot.
