This introductory course gives you a first glimpse into the world of indoor climbing. You will learn various techniques and can start right away from bouldering to initial toprope climbing. An experienced instructor will guide you step by step.

Course curriculum

In this compact introductory course (duration: approx. 2 hours), you will get a guided insight into the world of indoor climbing. You'll learn about the main climbing forms in a playful way and can gain initial experiences on the wall. The focus is on curiosity, trying things out, and getting a feel for movement, height, and safety. No prior knowledge is required.

Bouldering: Climbing at Jumping Height

Introduction to bouldering, climbing without a rope at a safe jumping height on soft mats.

Climbing with Auto-Belay Device

Assessment methods

There is no formal assessment. The goal is to gain experience and have fun.

The course leaders will attentively observe whether you feel safe, participate, and develop interest. At the end, there will be a brief discussion about whether and how you can continue.

Certificate of Participation

This introductory course is not required for attending a Basic Course 1 (Toprope), but it is recommended if you have no prior experience.

Itinerary

The course begins at the OUTDOOR Base in Interlaken with a brief check-in. You can store your personal belongings in the locker room before meeting your instructor inside the ORBIT climbing gym. They will provide you with your equipment: climbing shoes, harness, and belay device, as well as explain the essentials of climbing.

Introduction to Various Climbing Techniques

The course starts with bouldering: climbing at jumping height without a rope, ideal for getting a feel for the wall. Then, you'll move on to self-belaying devices. Here, you'll learn how to secure yourself independently. Finally, you will make your first attempts at toprope climbing with the support of your instructor.

Practical Training & First Climbing Attempts

After the introduction, it is time to get hands-on: you will try different routes, receive tips on technique and posture, and enjoy your own progress. Safety is the top priority, but fun is also guaranteed.

Course Conclusion & Independent Bouldering

After two hours of training, the course concludes. You will return your equipment, but if you're keen, you can continue bouldering independently. This gives you the chance to practice what you just learned.
