Do rafting tours take place in rain or bad weather?

Whether the sky is gray or light rain falls does not matter. You wear a wetsuit. You get completely wet anyway. Move through cold water. A little rain makes no difference. Many even say: rain brings more water, more current, more fun.

What really matters: water level
Weather is secondary. Important is river level. After heavy rain or snowmelt, river may carry too much water. If level exceeds safety limit, tour is suspended. Then:

  • Safety first.
  • Receive replacement date or refund.

Anything else is unnecessary risk. No place for it in rafting.

What happens in rain and what does not?
Takes place in:

  • Rain
  • Clouds
  • Cool temperatures

Does not take place in:

  • Storm
  • Thunderstorm
  • Dangerous high water

Such situations are rare. Weather and river levels monitored continuously.

Season
Rafting in Switzerland takes place in warm months:

  • May to September.
  • Spring (May/June): more meltwater, stronger current.
  • Summer: pleasantly warm, often calmer rivers.
