What requirements or prior knowledge do I need for a rafting tour?

No experience? No problem.
Most tours in Switzerland are suitable for beginners. No technical skills, prior experience, or special training needed. Every trip starts with an introduction. Guide explains:

  • How to paddle.
  • How to behave in the boat.
  • What to do (or avoid) in the river.

Clear head matters more than strength
More important than strength is mindset. You should feel comfortable in flowing water. Panic from splashes or rocking makes it difficult. Fear is allowed, as long as you listen and participate. Team support helps. A bit of adventurous spirit, team sense, willingness to follow instructions — that is all needed.

Fit enough for whitewater?
If you can:

  • Climb stairs without getting out of breath.
  • Paddle actively for 1–2 hours.
  • Hold yourself in the boat
…usually sufficient. Rafting requires no peak fitness, but you must keep up. Even against the current when necessary.

Health
Severe health issues prevent rafting:

  • Heart/circulatory problems.
  • Acute back, neck, or joint issues.
  • Untreated epilepsy.
  • Recent injuries

Whitewater rafting is not suitable for pregnant people due to impacts and risk of falls. If unsure, consult a doctor beforehand. Inform us during booking about asthma, diabetes, or past injuries for proper safety measures.

Height and weight limits
To ensure equipment and boat function:
Maximum weight: approx. 120–125 kg
Minimum height: depends on tour and equipment
Minimum age: from 8 years on family-friendly tours
from 12 or 14 years on more athletic tours.
These limits ensure safety gear fits and stable seating in the boat.
