Overview

Recommended for: Anyone who trades comfort for the view.

Long climb, exciting glacier terrain, solitary summit: Gross Grünhorn offers everything a ski tourer's heart desires.

Gross Grünhorn stands like an island in the ice in the middle of the Bernese Alps. The varied climb leads over broad glaciers as well as tricky crevassed sections to the summit with a beautiful panorama. The long ski descent to the valley is the crowning conclusion of this magnificent summit ski tour.

Itinerary

Meeting points
Day1
Day 1: Hut approach to the Mönchsjoch Hut
From the Jungfraujoch, the journey begins gently. Following the marked footpath, you ski with skins to the Mönchsjoch Hut. The path leads over a vast, high alpine glacier landscape, with the first views of the Bernese Alps opening up. The air is thinner up here: a slow pace helps with acclimatization. In the hut, there's time to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the upcoming summit day.

Day 2: Summit Ski Tour to Gross Grünhorn
After descending from the Mönchsjoch Hut, we climb up the "Ewig Schneefeld" Glacier to the saddle between Grünegghorn and Grünhorn. With some easy climbing, we reach the summit of Gross Grünhorn. The view of the surrounding mountains is spectacular. The ski descent follows the same route back. Depending on conditions, we will either choose the route back to the Jungfraujoch or ski down the Great Aletsch Glacier to Tälligrat and on to Fiescheralp.

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
