Overview

Recommended for: Anyone who trades comfort for the view.

A view for eternity: From deep blue to snow white: experience the contrasts of the Alps at Wildgärst.

From Grindelwald First to Wildgärst: a ski tour with stunning views and a long, varied ski descent. Crossing the Widderfäldgrätli and the winter landscape makes the tour exciting before the summit offers views of Lake Brienz and the Bernese Alps. Then comes the flow: almost 2,000 meters (6,560 feet) of descent through untouched snowfields down to Grindelwald.

Descent
-1850 m
Walking time
5-6 hrs
Arrival

Meeting at the Grindelwald First valley station, you take the cable car up to the mountain station and continue with the chairlift to Oberjoch.

Tour
2 - 3 hr

This is where the actual tour begins: put on the skins, ascend the short section to Widderfäldgrätli, then strap the skis to your backpack. A 20-minute walk along the ridge leads to a steep snow slope on the north side, where we descend into the Hiendertellti. Another 1-2 hours of climbing up separates us from the summit.

Summit

Up here, a contrasting view opens up: the deep turquoise Lake Brienz to the north, the massive 4000-meter peaks to the south. We enjoy a well-earned break.

Descent
1 - 2 hr

Now the descent begins: we ski down untouched slopes into the Wischbääch valley, past a col called Wart, and on to the huts of Scheidegg Oberläger. A final 20-minute ascent, then the final ski descent towards Grindelwald. In good conditions, we ski all the way to the village. A day with a lot of climbing, but even more downhill.

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
