How to Perfectly Fit a Skydive into Your Switzerland Trip

You’ve booked the flight, you’ve bought the Swiss Travel Pass, and your itinerary is slowly filling up with chocolate factories, mountain trains, and historic cities. But there is one big item on your bucket list that needs a special spot: the skydive over the Swiss Alps.

Integrating an adrenaline rush like this into a tight travel schedule can feel tricky. You might be wondering: "What if it rains?" or "Will I be too tired after the flight?"

As your local host here in Interlaken, I want to help you plan this perfectly. I want you to look back on your trip and remember the feeling of flying, not the stress of rushing to the airfield. Here is how you make the skydive the highlight of your Swiss adventure without messing up your travel plans.

The Best Timing in Your Itinerary

One of the most common mistakes I see travelers make is treating a skydive like a museum visit that can happen anytime, rain or shine. Skydiving is different. We play by nature's rules. To give yourself the best chance of jumping, you need to be strategic about when you book.

Avoid the Arrival and Departure Days

I know it’s tempting to hit the ground running (literally) as soon as you land in Zurich or Geneva, or to save the big jump for a grand finale on your last day. Trust me, neither is a great idea.

The Arrival Day

You just flew across time zones. You might be dealing with jet lag, dehydration, or just the mental fog of travel. Skydiving requires you to be alert and present. You want to enjoy the view with clear eyes, not fight to keep them open. Give yourself at least 24 hours to settle into the Swiss rhythm and altitude before you head to the dropzone.

The Departure Day

This is the "high-risk" strategy. If the weather decides to be moody on your last day—maybe there is low cloud cover or strong wind—we might have to cancel. If your flight home leaves that evening, you have zero chances to reschedule. It is heartbreaking to see guests leave Interlaken without their jump because they bet everything on the final morning.

Aim for the Middle of Your Trip

The "sweet spot" is right in the middle of your stay in the Jungfrau Region. If you are staying in Interlaken for three days, book your jump for the morning of the second day.

Why? Because it gives us a buffer. If Tuesday morning is cloudy, we can move you to Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. By placing the jump in the center of your itinerary, you buy yourself a safety net against the weather. It takes the pressure off and lets you relax.

Planning Your Day Without Stress

We call Interlaken the "Adventure Capital of Europe," but that doesn't mean your day has to be a chaotic rush. A skydive is a major experience. It deserves space in your day to be fully appreciated.

Plan for a Half-Day Experience

While the skydive itself—the flight up and the jump down—might only take an hour or so, the whole experience takes time. From the moment we pick you up at your hotel to the moment we drop you off, you should budget about 3.5 to 4 hours.

This includes meeting your tandem master, the safety briefing, getting geared up, the drive to the airfield, and the celebration afterwards. Don't try to squeeze a skydive into a tight 90-minute window between two trains.

Give yourself a leisurely morning or afternoon. Treat it as the main event. This way, you aren't checking your watch during the briefing, worrying about missing your connection to Lucerne. You are here to step out of your comfort zone, and that is much easier to do when you aren't rushing.

Built-in Weather Buffers

When you look at your itinerary, try not to book back-to-back major activities that are time-sensitive. If you have a skydive booked for 10:00 AM, don't book a non-refundable train ticket for 1:00 PM.

Sometimes we have to wait 30 minutes for a cloud layer to pass. This is normal in the mountains. If your schedule is too rigid, a small weather delay becomes a huge problem. If you keep your schedule a little loose, a short wait is just a chance to grab a coffee and chat with our crew.

Combining It with Other Activities

The beauty of jumping in Interlaken is that you land right in the heart of one of the most beautiful regions in Switzerland. You don't have to travel far to find the next amazing thing. In fact, a skydive pairs perfectly with other local highlights.

The "Adrenaline & Chill" Combo

After the intense rush of freefall, your body will be buzzing with energy. Many of our guests find that the perfect follow-up is something grounding and scenic.

Since our dropzone is centrally located, you are minutes away from the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz or Lake Thun. Hopping on a boat cruise after your jump is fantastic. You can sit back on the deck, look up at the snowy peaks you just flew over, and process what you just did. It’s a beautiful way to bring your heart rate back down.

The Jungfrau Region Perspective

If you are planning to visit the Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) or the Schilthorn, try to do the skydive before these excursions if possible.

Why? Because during the plane ride up to jump altitude, you will see these famous peaks eye-to-eye. Seeing the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau from the open door of a plane gives you a completely different perspective than seeing them from a train window or viewing platform. When you visit them on the ground later, you'll have a secret smile on your face, knowing you've already seen them from above the clouds.

A Reward for Your Bravery

Let's be honest: Jumping out of a plane is brave. You deserve a reward. Interlaken is famous for its chocolate making. Why not schedule a chocolate workshop for the afternoon? It’s a great sensory contrast—the cold, rushing wind of the morning followed by the warm, sweet comfort of Swiss chocolate in the afternoon.

What to Do If We Have to Reschedule

I know you want everything to go perfectly according to the spreadsheet. But in the Alps, nature is the boss. Sometimes, despite our best plans, the wind is too strong or the clouds are too low.

Have a Plan B

If we have to cancel your slot for safety reasons, don't panic. This is why you booked in the middle of your trip! We will immediately look for the next available weather window to get you in the air.

But if the weather is unflyable for the whole day, have a backup plan ready so your day isn't wasted.

  • If it's raining: Visit the St. Beatus Caves near Interlaken. They are underground, dry, and spectacular. Or head to the Ballenberg Open Air Museum, where you can duck into historic farmhouses.
  • If it's just cloudy: Maybe take the train to Bern, the capital city. The medieval old town is covered by arcades (6km of them!), so you can shop and explore without getting wet.

Keep Your Flexibility

The most important thing to pack for your Swiss trip isn't gear—it's flexibility. If we suggest moving your jump to 8:00 AM the next day because the forecast is better, try to say yes.

We want you to jump just as much as you do. We watch the weather constantly. If we suggest a change, it’s because we want to get you up there safely. Trust your local guides. We know how the valley weather works.

Ready to Integrate the Adventure?

Adding a skydive to your Swiss vacation turns a great trip into a legendary one. It just takes a little smart planning. Don't overbook yourself, give the weather a little respect, and trust that we will do everything we can to get you in the air.

We can't wait to welcome you to our beautiful backyard and show you the view from 13,000 feet.
