Ski Touring Paradise Gauli
Ski Touring Paradise Gauli
Whether in summer or winter, the Gauli region stays quiet and untouched. It's wild, it's peaceful – and that's exactly what makes it so special. Our 4-day tour into this stunning mountain basin combines rewarding climbs with epic downhill runs.
Day 1 – Ascent to the Bächlital Hut
We meet in Meiringen and travel by taxi, then take the Handegg cable car up to the Rätrichboden reservoir. With the winter landscape all around us, we put on our climbing skins and head up toward the Bächlital Hut – either via the Bächlisblatti or the Bächlisboden.
Day 2 – Traverse to the Gauli Hut We start early with a short descent into the valley floor, then continue deeper into the Bächlital. Towering granite peaks surround us – the Diamantstock, Bächlistock, and Brandlammhorn. Ahead, we spot the Obri Bächlilücke – today's goal. Climbing in kick turns, we make our way up to the Bächligletscher. As we approach the col, a steep rock wall blocks the way – time to strap skis to the backpack and scramble up ladders to reach the top. From there, we descend through easy rocky terrain to reach the Hiendertelltigletscher. A long, scenic run takes us down to the Gauli Lake. The Gauli Hut is just above it – so we put the skins back on for one more short climb. The terrain gets a little tricky here, especially in fog, but the views and solitude make it worth it. At the hut, we dry our skins by the firelight and relax with something warm in the cozy common room.

Day 2 – Traverse to the Gauli Hut
We start early with a short descent into the valley, then continue deeper into the Bächlital. Towering granite peaks surround us—Diamantstock, Bächlistock, and Brandlammhorn. Ahead lies the Obri Bächli Pass—our goal for the day. We ascend the Bächli Glacier in kick turns. Just before the saddle, a steep rock wall blocks our path—it’s time to strap our skis to our backpacks and climb ladders to the summit.
From there, we descend through easy, rocky terrain onto the Hiendertelltigletscher.
A long, scenic descent takes us down to Lake Gauli. The Gauli Hut sits slightly above—so we put our skins back on for one last short ascent. The terrain becomes a bit more challenging here, especially in fog, but the view and the solitude make it worthwhile.
Once at the hut, we dry our skins by the firelight and relax with a warm drink in the cozy common room.
