A Change of Scenery: Matterhorn, July 2023
125 Years of the Grindelwald Mountain Guides Association

It's not vacation time yet... good weather during the week... maybe a good moment for the 'Horu'?
The Anniversary Ice Axe, Rosi Bleuer, and Laura Bomio seize the opportunity. In the first week of July, they stand on the 4478m high Matterhorn in sunshine and good conditions.
The evening before, there were thunderstorms, so crampons had to be put on before the lower Mosley slab. A total of 36 mountain guides from various countries lead a guest to the summit that day. The rope teams are well distributed, and we find ourselves somewhere in the middle, practically having the summit to ourselves. The view of Cervinia and the neighboring peaks is stunning.
The descent on the Hore is just as challenging as the ascent. Thanks to the sun, we can pack away the crampons above the Solvey Hut.
Very grateful and satisfied, enriched by an impressive mountain tour, the three of us from Grindelwald make our way home from Zermatt to Grindelwald in the evening. Congratulations and thanks to Rosi and Laura.
What awaits the Anniversary Ice Axe next?
