Overview

Recommended for: Anyone looking for the mountain beyond the postcard.

Climb over scree and rocks to Chrinnenhorn and enjoy the spectacular view.

This tour takes you from green alpine meadows into the rugged high mountain world. The path requires stamina, and the final section to the summit demands surefootedness. But the reward is immense: a breathtaking view, rocky scrambling sections, and with a bit of luck, marmots or ibexes along the way.

Arrival

Our tour starts at Hotel Wetterhorn in Grindelwald. We take the bus to the Gleckstein junction stop, where our hike begins.

Ascent
4 - 5 hr

The path initially leads over alpine meadows before we reach the narrow Ischpfad. We cross rocky terrain and see below us the ruins of the old Wetterhorn cable car station. After a descent to Wyssbach, we ascend to Scheenbiel. Here, the view opens up to the Upper Grindelwald Glacier. After a break, we continue to the Glecksteinhütte. From here, the actual ascent to Chrinnenhorn begins. The path leads over moraine fields and loose scree until we reach terrain with firmer rock. The last few meters challenge us once more: in some places, we use our hands to progress. The summit rewards us with an impressive view of the Grindelwald Valley and the surrounding mountain peaks.

Descent
3 hr

After a break and a snack from the backpack, we descend the same way. At the Glecksteinhütte, we take a final rest before heading back down to the valley.

Weather info

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
