Overview

Recommended for: Anyone who trades comfort for the view.

Long ascent, steep sections, magnificent ridge: The Gross Fiescherhorn is a peak for true ski mountaineering enthusiasts.

The Gross Fiescherhorn demands stamina and technique. After a night at the Mönchsjoch Hut, the ascent leads over glaciers, crampon sections, and an exposed ridge to the summit. The reward: a solitary glacier world, breathtaking panoramic views, and a long descent that, depending on conditions, can lead all the way to Lötschental.

Itinerary

Meeting points
Day1
Day 1: Ascent to Mönchsjoch Hut
From the Jungfraujoch, the journey begins gently. Following the marked footpath, you ascend with skins to the Mönchsjoch Hut. The path leads over a vast, high-alpine glacier landscape, as the first views of the Bernese Alps unfold. Up here, the air is thinner: a slow pace helps with acclimatization. At the hut, there's time to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the upcoming summit day.

Day 2: Summit Ski Tour to Gross Fiescherhorn
The adventure starts before sunrise. First, a short descent over the Ewig Schneefeld, then the long ascent begins. The initial elevation gain is over gently rising glacier surfaces, but it soon becomes steeper. At the latest at the Bergschrund, it is time to strap the skis to your backpack and put on crampons. The Fiescher Saddle requires focused effort before the final challenge awaits: an impressive ridge climb leading directly to the summit. At the top, an incomparable panorama awaits: the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau behind you, the endless expanses of the Bernese Alps before you. After a rest, the long descent follows, depending on conditions, either back to Jungfraujoch or via the Lötschenlücke to Blatten.

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
