Overview

Recommended for: Anyone looking for the mountain beyond the postcard.

A varied via ferrata above the Eiger Trail, right next to the North Face. At the top awaits the Rotstock.

Right next to the Eiger North Face, the via ferrata climbs over rock ledges and ladders to the Rotstock. Equipped with harness, carabiner, and helmet, you ascend from the Eiger Trail through the Rotstock Gorge to the start. From there, the route leads over the Rotstock saddle to the summit. Views, depths, and pure nature, it's all there.

Arrival

Travel independently by gondola from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher Station.

Via Ferrata

From Eigergletscher Station, we follow the Eiger Trail down to the grassy shoulder Wart, where the path to the via ferrata branches off.

After about 45 minutes, we reach the start at 2,400 m above sea level. Here, the safety briefing takes place. The mountain guide shows you the technique on the wire rope before we begin.

The route leads over iron ladders, footholds, and rock passages up to the Rotstock saddle and further to the summit of Rotstock at 2,663 m above sea level.

Descent

The descent is on the backside. There are also some tricky spots here before we return to Eigergletscher Station.

Weather info

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
