Multiple high-altitude tour experiences required

Overview

Recommended for: Anyone who trades comfort for the view.

Climb over rock and snow, experience airy ridge climbing passages, and enjoy the view from the Wetterhorn.

The Wetterhorn is more than just the local mountain of Grindelwald. The ascent via the Willsgrätli demands strength, technique, and endurance. After a leisurely hut ascent, an alpine adventure awaits: crampons on the glacier, ridge climbing, a final ascent. At the top: the view over the Bernese Oberland.

Itinerary

Meeting points
Day1
Day 1: Ascent to Glecksteinhütte
The path to Glecksteinhütte begins at the bus stop Abzweig Gleckstein. It gets straight to the point: a steep but beautiful trail leads along the upper Grindelwald Glacier. On the right, the gorge carved by the glacier, on the left, steep rock walls. There are frequent views down into the valley. With luck, ibexes can be seen right at the hut – a real highlight. In the evening, you meet your mountain guide to discuss the ascent of the Wetterhorn.

Day2
Day 2: Ascent of the Wetterhorn via the Willsgrätli
Early start in the light of headlamps. The path leads to and over the Chrinnen Glacier, where crampons are needed. Then the climbing begins: The Willsgrätli rises exposed upwards. Concentration is required here, every grip counts. At the Weather Saddle, the final stage: The summit ascent demands everything again – in early summer over snow, later over rock. Then the goal: 3,692 m above sea level, the Wetterhorn. The view extends from the surrounding snowy peaks over the pre-Alps to the Swiss Plateau and the Jura. The descent follows the ascent route back to Glecksteinhütte and into the valley.

General weather info

Weather can influence any tour, and a clear decision is often only possible on the day itself. We review conditions carefully and remain within our safety limits, and bad weather alone does not mean we have to stop.

Make sure we can reach you with current contact information in case your booking changes. Silence from us means your tour is still planned or the final call is not yet made. If we need to cancel, you can rebook, choose another activity, or get a full refund.
