Perfectly prepared for your next summit Ski Tour
Tips for packing your backpack from our mountain guide Kurt Egger
Kurt Egger, Mountainguide form Grindelwald
What do I pack?
- Please refer to the packing list for the respective tour.
The best way to pack my backpack?
- Don’t use a backpack that’s too large. A 25–30 liter pack is usually sufficient.
- Except for the ice axe, everything should go inside the backpack.
- Pack heavy items at the bottom and close to your back.
- Items you need frequently on the way – such as sun/cold protection and drinks – should go at the top of the pack.
Where is there usually potential for improvement?
- Don’t take too much with you! Especially when it comes to food or extra clothes for the hut – people often carry more than necessary.
- Heavy phone battery packs aren’t absolutely essential either.
- The backpack should fit well against your back. It’s best to get advice at a specialty store when buying a new one.
What do mountain guides take with them in addition?
- First aid kit
- Navigation tools (compass/map)
- Radio
- Rope
- Technical safety gear
- Repair kit
